When I stepped into the role of club president, my primary intention was simple: to step up and support the club in a meaningful way. Along the journey, I discovered that leadership is never a solo effort; it truly takes a village to sustain success. I learned the importance of delegation, trusting others, and creating opportunities for mentorship, while also building connections that genuinely matter.
My goal as president was to elevate the quality of our club and inspire members to invest in their personal growth. While we made strong progress toward this, our journey was not without challenges. As a corporate club, we experienced transitions when members left the company, leaving us short-staffed and stretching our capacity. However, the support from sister clubs played a crucial role in helping us stay resilient, and it also allowed us to cultivate a new, more collaborative culture.
Reflecting on this experience, I carry forward three key leadership dos and don’ts. Don’t try to do everything alone, don’t delay action, and don’t lose sight of continuous improvement. At the same time, do communicate openly and consistently, do empower others to lead, and do leverage your network to find mentors and support. These lessons have shaped not just my leadership, but my perspective on growth and community.
